If you could see mental pain, would you understand it better?

Physical pain is easy to recognise. Mental pain is often invisible.

For health insurer Helan, we used artificial intelligence to help change that.

Working with patients and a clinical psychologist, we translated personal descriptions of psychological suffering

into unique AI-generated images.

For the first time, people could show others what their pain felt like.

The resulting images were exhibited in psychiatric hospitals, opening conversations between patients, caregivers

and loved ones.

A new use for AI: not to create something imaginary, but to make something deeply human visible.
